Tradition / Kataka Bali Jatra to Kick off November 24, to Conclude December 1

Kataka, Aug 27: The historic Bali Jatra festival in Kataka will be held from November 24 to December 1, extending over eight days this year. The decision was finalized during a preparatory meeting chaired by the Kataka District Collector.

Unlike last year, when the festival was restricted to the lower ground, the district administration has proposed to the state government that Bali Jatra be organized on both upper and lower grounds to accommodate larger crowds and avoid disputes.

Preparations have already begun three months ahead of the event, with discussions focusing on stall booking, ground design, disaster management, and traffic control. Officials emphasized that this year’s arrangements will be more streamlined to ensure smooth operations.

The Collector confirmed that, similar to previous years, Bollywood and Ollywood artists will perform at the festival, adding glamour to the cultural extravaganza.

Last year’s controversy over excluding the upper ground and the incident involving a stalled swing ride prompted authorities to take extra precautions. A dedicated technical team will be formed to inspect all amusement rides to prevent accidents.

The administration also plans to coordinate with multiple departments to make the festival more vibrant and safe. Special attention will be given to traffic management, crowd control, and stall organization to enhance the visitor experience.

Bali Jatra, celebrated to mark Odisha’s rich maritime heritage, continues to be one of the largest open-air trade and cultural fairs in the state, drawing lakhs of visitors every year.
