Weather Update / Odisha Winter Chill to Return after December 3 Post Brief Warm Spell

Key Points
- Odisha’s cold wave to intensify again from December 3 after a brief lull.
- Minimum temperature dips to 7.4°C in G. Udayagiri and 9.5°C in Daringbadi.
- Depression over Bay of Bengal influencing atmospheric moisture but no rain expected in Odisha.
Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: Odisha has been experiencing a slight rise in temperatures over the past few days, leading to a temporary lull in the winter chill.
Meteorologists attribute this change to two active weather systems that have been pushing moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal into the atmosphere. The increased humidity has reduced the intensity of the cold, making mornings and nights relatively milder across the state.
However, this situation is expected to change soon. From
December 3 onwards, the cold wave is likely to intensify again, bringing back
the bone-chilling winter conditions. Forecasts suggest that the state will
remain dry for the next seven days, with no rainfall activity expected.

✨Despite the temporary rise in temperatures, the minimum
temperature has already dipped under 10°C, indicating
the persistence of winter’s grip in certain regions.
Odisha’s Kandhamal district continues to reel under a cold wave. Daringbadi recorded a minimum temperature of 9.5°C, while G. Udayagiri dipped further to 7.4°C. Phulbani also shivered at 10.5°C. The biting chill has gripped the region, forcing residents to brace for harsher winter days ahead.
Weather experts note that the presence of two active systems has delayed the onset of harsher cold. Yet, once these systems weaken, the mercury is expected to fall sharply. The chill is predicted to return strongly after December 3, with night temperatures dropping further across interior and western Odisha.
Meanwhile, a depression has formed over the southwest Bay of
Bengal, near southeast Sri Lanka and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean regions.
This system is likely to intensify into a deep depression within the next few
hours and move northwestward, becoming more concentrated. While this system is
not expected to bring rainfall to Odisha, its influence on atmospheric moisture
has temporarily moderated the cold.
