Vigilance Raid / Odisha Vigilance Unearths 24 Plots, Multiple Buildings During Raids on Factories and Boilers Official

Bhubaneswar, Sep 29: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday unearthed 24 high-value land plots, multiple residential buildings and a flat during simultaneous raids conducted in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case against Umakant Samantaray, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur.

The anti-corruption agency carried out searches at seven locations across Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khordha following allegations that the official possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The searches were conducted on the strength of warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur.

A Vigilance team comprising eight Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 11 Inspectors, 11 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and other supporting staff participated in the operation.

Properties under scanner

During the searches, Vigilance officials identified several immovable assets allegedly linked to Samantaray and his family members. These include a 3-BHK flat measuring around 2,000 sq ft at Sun City Apartment in Dhankauda, Sambalpur, and a duplex house of approximately 2,900 sq ft at Nandan Vihar on Nandankanan Road in Bhubaneswar.

Officials also detected a building measuring about 2,460 sq ft near Indus College of Engineering at Barakuda near Jatani, a triple-storeyed building spread over around 4,000 sq ft at Tota Behera Sahi in Baliguali, Puri, and a double-storeyed building of nearly 4,000 sq ft at Subash Marg in Balugaon.

24 plots traced

One of the major findings during the raid was the detection of 24 high-value plots at different locations in the State. According to Vigilance sources, eight plots are situated in prime areas of Bhubaneswar and Jatani, while three are located on the outskirts of Khordha district.

The agency has also identified eight plots in and around Sambalpur town, three plots in Burla and two plots in Rengali. Verification of ownership, valuation and related documentation is currently underway.

Further investigation continues

In addition to immovable assets, Vigilance officials are examining deposits, investments and other financial instruments linked to the official and his family members. The Vigilance Technical Wing has been tasked with measuring and assessing the market value of the buildings, flat and plots detected during the searches.

Officials said the raids were continuing and further details regarding the extent of assets and their valuation would emerge after the completion of verification and assessment processes. The investigation into the alleged possession of disproportionate assets remains in progress.
