Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: The Odisha government is set to host a special two-day event on November 10 and 11 to mark Millet Day, highlighting the state’s commitment to promoting millet cultivation, consumption, and awareness. The program will feature a series of activities aimed at showcasing the nutritional and ecological benefits of millets, which have been a staple in traditional farming systems.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will attend the event as the chief guest, underscoring the central government’s support for millet-based initiatives. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo announced the details of the celebration, emphasising Odisha’s leadership in millet promotion under its flagship Millet Mission.

The event will bring together farmers, agricultural scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the state. Exhibitions, workshops, and cultural programs are expected to highlight the role of millets in food security, climate resilience, and rural livelihoods.

The Millet Day celebration aligns with India’s broader push to revive traditional grains and promote sustainable agriculture. With Odisha at the forefront, the event is expected to serve as a model for other states aiming to integrate millets into mainstream food systems and public nutrition programs.
