In coastal Ganjam’s Podampeta area, the sea has turned turbulent, threatening the Palibandha panchayat. Several hamlets have already been swallowed by the sea in previous years, and the current storm surge poses a serious risk to nearby villages. The administration had earlier relocated entire communities and provided housing, but the advancing sea continues to endanger the region.
In Koraput’s border block of Pottangi, villages like Deopottangi, Maliput, and Pukali have reported damage to homes due to heavy rain and strong winds. Local officials have moved affected families to panchayat buildings for shelter.
Tourists have been advised to avoid visiting Gopalpur, Mahendragiri, and Deomali until further notice. All government holidays have been suspended until October 30, with the possibility of extension if needed.
