Cyber Policing / Odisha Police Signs MoU With NFSU To Strengthen Cybercrime Investigation

Bhubaneswar, Aug 4: Odisha Police has taken a decisive step towards strengthening cybercrime investigation and digital forensics by partnering with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Bhubaneswar campus. The CID Crime Branch signed a five‑year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NFSU, marking a new chapter in scientific policing, officials said on Tuesday.

The MoU was signed by DGP, Crime Branch, Vinaytosh Mishra and NFSU Campus Director Purabi Pokhariyal in the presence of DGP, Odisha Police, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania. Following the signing, Khurania inaugurated the first Cyber Crime Investigation and Digital Forensics Training Programme under the collaboration.

Describing the agreement as a “historic milestone,” Khurania said the partnership would modernise Odisha Police and equip personnel to tackle emerging cyber threats. He noted that crimes involving mule accounts, online investment fraud and “digital arrest” are rising, with digital evidence now central to investigations under new criminal laws.

Highlighting Odisha’s efforts, Khurania said 20 new Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Stations had been established and police stations equipped with modern hardware and software worth nearly ₹15 crore. He stressed that specialised training was essential to ensure effective use of these resources.

The partnership with NFSU will extend beyond training to include crime scene management, higher education, joint research, development of forensic infrastructure and technical consultancy. Mishra said the collaboration would provide world‑class technical training across all ranks.

By January 2027, 480 officers and personnel from all 34 police districts and the Crime Branch will undergo specialised training in 16 batches. Each six‑day programme will include five days of classroom and laboratory sessions at NFSU, followed by practical training at the Cyber Complex.

Officials said the initiative would create a comprehensive ecosystem for cyber policing and digital forensics, reinforcing Odisha’s preparedness against rapidly evolving cybercrime.
