Rajgangpur, Balasore/ Apr 3: In a late-night operation, Rajgangpur Police in Odisha's Sundargarh district claimed to have foiled a planned dacoity after acting on a tip-off during routine patrolling. Six accused were apprehended on the spot, while two others managed to escape.
According to police, four knives, four iron rods and three packets of chilli powder were recovered from the suspects. During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that they were preparing to carry out a robbery in a nearby village. “We received credible information and acted swiftly, leading to the arrests,” a police official said.

Major Dacoity Case Cracked in Nilagiri
In another significant breakthrough, police arrested three alleged dacoits in connection with a high-value robbery reported from Balasore's Nilagiri area earlier this month.
As per police sources, the arrests were made by a special squad formed under the supervision of SP Pratyush Diwakar, with Nilagiri IIC Gobardhan Nayak leading the ground operation.
Police said that on the evening of March 25, six armed miscreants reportedly barged into the residence of one Gobinda Singh at Chakradharpur Sasan. The family members were allegedly threatened at gunpoint and with sharp weapons, their mouths taped, and physically assaulted before their valuables were looted.

“The accused decamped with gold ornaments worth around Rs 40 lakh and cash exceeding Rs 20 lakh. They also damaged CCTV cameras and took away mobile phones to destroy evidence,” an officer involved in the probe informed.
Police further stated that the arrested individuals have prior criminal records in multiple police stations. Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the remaining accused, with additional teams led by Additional SP Pramod Kumar Mallick conducting raids at various locations.
