Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: The Odisha government has planned a new Legislative Assembly building with a seating capacity of 300 members, more than double the present strength of the House, as part of a major infrastructure expansion in Bhubaneswar.

The new Assembly complex will be developed alongside a new Lok Seva Bhavan within a single integrated campus. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for the twin projects on Monday during a programme held at the Lok Seva Bhavan conference hall on the occasion of the National Road Safety Programme.

Rs 3,623 Crore Project on 71.13 Acres
According to officials, the state government will spend Rs 3,623 crore on the construction of the new Lok Seva Bhavan and the Legislative Assembly complex. The projects will come up on 71.13 acres of land.

The new Lok Seva Bhavan will include basement-level parking facilities, aimed at easing congestion in the administrative area.

At present, the Odisha Legislative Assembly has 147 seats. The proposed expansion to accommodate 300 members is part of the state’s long-term planning for future legislative requirements.

Elevated Corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a dedicated elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan, to be built at a cost of Rs 952 crore.

As part of the project, flyovers will be constructed at Jayadev Vihar, Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square and KIIT Square. A four-lane cable-stayed bridge has also been planned at Jayadev Vihar Square.

Officials said the project includes a large green component, with 22,410 trees to be planted on both sides of the road.

71 Projects Worth Rs 6,701 Crore Launched
During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 71 projects worth Rs 6,701 crore. These include 33 road projects and five bridges across the state.

The government said the projects aim to strengthen infrastructure, improve traffic movement and support Odisha’s long-term urban and administrative development plans.
