Khadi Chuan Ceremony Marks New Academic Year Across Odisha Schools

Key Points

The state-level ceremony was inaugurated with the participation of the Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who interacted with children and symbolically guided them in touching the chalk (Khadi Chuan).
Bhubaneswar, Apr 4: The Odisha government has launched the statewide Pravesh Utsav and Khadi Chuan program to mark the beginning of the new academic year.

The initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), aims to highlight the importance of primary education and encourage children to embrace learning with enthusiasm.

The state-level ceremony was inaugurated with the participation of the Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who interacted with children and symbolically guided them in touching the chalk (Khadi Chuan), a gesture meant to strengthen their morale and inspire confidence.

The program is designed to make schools more attractive to young learners and to create awareness about the necessity of foundational education. Celebrations are being held in every primary school across Odisha from April 6 to 8.

As part of the awareness drive, an Education Awareness Rath has been flagged off from the state headquarters. This mobile campaign will travel through districts and blocks, spreading messages about the value of education and encouraging community participation.

Schools are also organising creative activities such as storytelling corners (Gapa Raija), art zones (Rangara Dunia), and play areas (Khela Ghara) to engage children in joyful learning.

A special highlight of this year’s program is the introduction of the Magical Learning Kit (Jadui Pitara), developed under NEP 2020.

Each kit contains toys, puzzles, story cards, picture cards, posters, and teaching aids designed to support language, numeracy, and social skills. These kits will be available for children from Shishu Batika up to Class V, and will be used by teachers, parents, and students alike.

The initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to strengthening early childhood education, blending cultural traditions with modern pedagogical practices, and ensuring that every child begins their schooling journey with joy and confidence.
