Odisha Yatri Safety App / Odisha Launches India’s First State‑Owned Safety App for Safer Journeys

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday launched the Odisha Yatri Safety App, India’s first state‑owned safety platform, on Local Self Government Day, officials said on Friday.

 Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister described the initiative as a milestone in building safer and smarter cities, and a pioneering step in citizen‑centric urban mobility. He emphasised that technology must be used to strengthen public confidence and ensure that every citizen, especially every woman, can travel independently and without fear.

Developed as part of the Odisha Yatri integrated mobility platform, the app introduces advanced emergency‑response features designed to provide immediate assistance during distress.

Unlike conventional safety tools that require multiple steps, Odisha Yatri’s “Shake & Alert” allows users to simply shake their phone to trigger an SOS, ensuring help is accessible even under pressure. A one‑click SOS button connects directly to emergency number 112 and alerts designated contacts, while live location sharing enables journeys to be monitored in real time.

The safety module is designed for both passengers and drivers, offering quick access to police, ambulance and fire services, audio recording during emergencies, trusted contact integration, and a “Mark Ride as Safe” option to close alerts once the passenger reaches safety. Officials emphasised that the initiative particularly benefits women, senior citizens and vulnerable commuters.

Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the app reflects Odisha’s commitment to building a modern transport ecosystem centred on safety, dignity and convenience. Brand Ambassador Archita Sahu urged citizens, especially women and youth, to familiarise themselves with the app’s features, noting that it places essential safety tools directly in the hands of users.

Odisha Yatri Brand Ambassador Archita Sahu appealed to citizens, particularly women and young people, to use the Odisha Yatri platform and familiarise themselves with its safety features. She highlighted how the initiative puts immediate assistance and essential safety tools directly in the hands of passengers.

The Odisha Yatri platform already offers ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking and boating facilities. With the addition of the safety module, it strengthens its vision of secure, affordable and inclusive mobility. Citizens can download or update the app to access the new features.
