Bhubaneswar, Apr 4: Odisha Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Saturday announced a major recruitment drive to fill vacant posts across universities, including 14 Vice-Chancellor positions and hundreds of faculty vacancies.
Recruitment Drive Gains Momentum
The Minister said the process has been accelerated following the University Preservation Amendment Act, with directions issued to the State Selection Board (SSB) and Odisha Public Service Commission to ensure timely appointments.
A total of 385 Assistant Professor posts are set to be filled before July, while recruitment for other faculty positions is also underway.
Over 1,400 Vacancies To Be Addressed
Suraj said a bill passed in the Rajya Sabha has paved the way to address around 1,400 vacant posts, including Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors.
“We have taken a unit-based approach for reservations, ensuring that reservations do not exceed 50% as per Supreme Court's guidelines,” the Minister said.
He added that provisions for reservation for women and persons with disabilities (Divyang) will be implemented as per government norms.
Advertisements Issued
The Minister informed that recruitment advertisements have already been issued for several positions, including Vice-Chancellors and teaching staff, with the aim of strengthening higher education infrastructure and improving academic quality.

Private Schools Warned Against Arbitrary Practices
In a separate development, Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond issued a stern warning to private schools against arbitrary practices.
Strict Action For Rule Violations
The Minister said strict action will be taken against institutions that fail to comply with government regulations, stressing that all private schools must adhere to prescribed guidelines.
Concerns Over Textbook Uniformity
Gond flagged concerns over the use of different publications and textbooks in private schools, indicating the need for greater uniformity.
He said discussions will soon be held with departmental officials to address the issue and streamline practices across institutions.
