Civil Services Reform / Odisha Govt Removes Attempt Limit for Civil Services Exam

Bhubaneswar, Aug 15: In a landmark decision announced on India’s 80th Independence Day, the Odisha government on Saturday removed the cap of six attempts for the Odisha Civil Services Examination. Aspirants will now be eligible to appear until they reach the maximum age limit, a move hailed as a major relief for thousands of candidates preparing for competitive examinations.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, while unveiling a series of sweeping reforms, emphasized that the change reflects the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for youth and ensuring merit-based recruitment. Alongside this announcement, he declared the abolition of compassionate appointments following the death of government employees, signaling a decisive shift towards transparency and fairness in public service recruitment.

Employment generation formed a central pillar of his address. The Chief Minister assured that three lakh jobs would be created in the next two to three years, with 20 lakh employment opportunities projected over the next five years. Rising industrial investments and skill training initiatives are expected to support this ambitious drive.

Education reforms also featured prominently. Free textbooks will be provided to students of Classes IX and X, while the ambitious Gyanodaya scheme will ensure free education from kindergarten to postgraduate levels. Plans are underway to open 2,200 model schools next year, accompanied by the recruitment of 45,000 teachers. The state will also establish 18 new colleges, four universities, four medical colleges, and two homeopathy medical institutions.

Social welfare expansion was another highlight, with seven lakh additional beneficiaries set to be included under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana. CM Majhi further pledged that by 2027, every village in Odisha would have access to basic amenities, with significant improvements in healthcare delivery.

Taken together, these announcements outline a comprehensive roadmap for Odisha’s development, combining employment generation, educational empowerment, and welfare expansion. The initiatives are expected to reshape the socio-economic landscape of the state in the coming decade.
