Bhubaneswar, Aug 15: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hoisted the Tricolour at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Saturday to mark the 80th Independence Day. In his address, he blended homage to freedom fighters with a forward‑looking vision for inclusive development, underscoring Odisha’s role in India’s freedom struggle while outlining ambitious plans for a “Viksit Odisha” aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Remembering Freedom Fighters

The CM recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership in the freedom struggle, alongside revolutionaries like Subhas Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh. He paid tribute to Odisha’s heroes — Gopabandhu Das, Madhusudan Das, Laxman Nayak, Surendra Sai, and Biju Patnaik — whose sacrifices shaped the nation’s destiny. He also highlighted the Paika Rebellion of 1817 as a precursor to India’s independence movement.

Development and Governance

The Chief Minister emphasised that Odisha’s progress hinges on its citizens, particularly farmers, tribal communities, and women. He announced initiatives under Mission Power to provide roads, electricity, and drinking water to all villages by 2027. Free education “from KG to PG” and expanded healthcare facilities, including new medical colleges, were presented as transformative steps.

Farmers and Welfare

Farmers were described as “annadatas,” with schemes like PM Kisan, CM Kisan, and procurement reforms ensuring income growth. Relief measures for natural calamities and crop losses were also detailed, underscoring the government’s commitment to rural resilience.

Women and Youth Empowerment

The CM stressed women’s empowerment through economic and social initiatives, citing self‑help groups like Subhadra and Lakshapati Didi. He hailed the youth as the driving force behind a “Viksit Odisha,” pointing to scientific achievements and defence self‑reliance as symbols of national pride.

Vision Ahead

Linking Odisha’s journey with India’s rise as a global power, the CM reiterated the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, pledging to build a prosperous and developed Odisha aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
