Bhubaneswar, Dec15: The Odisha government has approved a significant hike in stipends for postgraduate students studying in government Ayurvedic and Homeopathic colleges across the state, officials said on Monday.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the revised
stipends will benefit around 120 PG students and will come into effect from
January 1, 2026.
According to the new structure, first-year PG students will
see a 55% increase in their monthly stipend, rising from Rs 31,000 to Rs
48,000. For second-year students, the stipend has been raised by 62%, from Rs
32,000 to Rs 52,000. Third-year students will receive a 67% hike, with their
stipend increasing from Rs 33,000 to Rs 55,000 per month.

In addition to postgraduate students, the government has
also approved a substantial hike in stipends for house surgeons in government
Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medical colleges. Their monthly stipend has been
increased from Rs 17,000 to Rs 30,000, effective from August 1, 2025.
Officials said the decision reflects the government’s
commitment to strengthening traditional medicine education and supporting young
scholars. The move is expected to encourage research and practice in Ayurveda
and Homeopathy, while also improving the financial security of students
pursuing these courses.

The announcement has been welcomed by the academic
community, with experts noting that the hike will help attract more students to
traditional medicine streams and enhance the overall quality of healthcare
