Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has emphasized the need for a dedicated eightlane alternative road to Puri to ensure smooth travel for pilgrims and tourists.

At a highlevel review meeting, he directed officials to prioritize the construction and expansion of a wide corridor that would guarantee uninterrupted movement between Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Puri, eliminating traffic bottlenecks during peak pilgrim seasons.

The Chief Minister stressed that the project must deliver a seamless travel experience. “Pilgrims and tourists should be able to reach Puri without facing traffic congestion. Continuous and convenient movement must be ensured,” he advised.

The review meeting also focused on finding a permanent solution to traffic congestion in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, alongside beautification measures.

CM Majhi instructed officials to immediately repair damaged roads and traffic junctions in Bhubaneswar, while strengthening the smart traffic system to regulate vehicular flow more effectively.

Detailed discussions were held on the Twin City Traffic Decongestion Plan, which includes developing major junctions, constructing flyovers and overbridges, installing smart traffic signals, expanding CCTV surveillance, and strictly enforcing the removal of illegal parking.

Highlighting the importance of urban aesthetics, CM Majhi said the connectivity between the historic city of Cuttack and the capital Bhubaneswar must be enhanced with cleaner, wellorganized, and visually appealing roads. He directed departmental secretaries and senior officials to ensure immediate repair of all major roads and junctions in poor condition.

The plan also envisions longterm measures such as flyovers at critical points, modern traffic management systems, and beautification projects to make the twin cities more livable and attractive. Officials were asked to implement these measures with urgency and strict monitoring.
