Odisha CM reviews SCB Medical and Hanuman Bhatika redevelopment projects.

Key Points

Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed redevelopment of SCB Medical College and Hanuman Bhatika. SCB’s new clinical blocks, MLCP and canal beautification are underway, while Hanuman Bhatika will be transformed in spiritual style. Both projects aim to enhance healthcare and tourism infrastructure.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan here to assess the progress of two major redevelopment projects — the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and the Hanuman Bhatika spiritual complex in Rourkela, officials said.

The SCB Medical mega project aims to transform the institution into a world-class healthcare hub. Construction of four new clinical blocks and one residential block is advancing rapidly, with completion expected by June next year. The residential block is nearly finished, while the Chief Minister has directed officials to plan for an additional medicine block, with site identification to be expedited.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the ongoing construction of a multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility and associated infrastructure. CM Majhi stressed the need to complete these works within the stipulated timeline to ease traffic and parking for thousands of patients, attendants and doctors visiting SCB daily. He further instructed beautification of the Taladanda canal area, creation of wider roads, and landscaping to provide a modern environment around the hospital.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the transformation of Hanuman Bhatika in Rourkela, a prominent spiritual tourism site. The Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) has been tasked with executing the project in a fully spiritual style. CM Majhi directed that ongoing works, including the proposed Kalyan Mandap and other spiritual structures, be accelerated while preserving the sanctity and natural environment of the complex. Plans for beautification, improved access roads, and illumination in surrounding areas are also being prepared.

Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretaries Shashwat Mishra and Usha Padhi, Works Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Health Commissioner Ashwathi S., OBCC MD Anupam Saha, Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, and CMC Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota were, among others, present at the meeting.
