Cuttack, Oct 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the centenary celebration of Barendra Krishna Vidyapeeth at Banki in Cuttack district, officials said on Tuesday
During the event, the Chief Minister announced a grant of Rs1 crore for the construction of an auditorium and assured support for all necessary infrastructural developments at the school.
A School That Sparked a Movement
In his address, CM Majhi described Barendra Krishna Vidyapeeth not merely as an educational institution but as a movement that has empowered generations in Banki and surrounding regions. He praised the school’s century-long journey, highlighting its role in promoting self-respect, awareness, and quality education.
Commitment to Educational Reform
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of education in Indian culture and reiterated the state government’s commitment to implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He noted that Odisha has now adopted NEP, ensuring students receive quality education on par with national standards.
CM Majhi also announced the development of 762 schools under the PM SHRI scheme and the launch of the Godavarish Mishra Model Primary School initiative, which will see 12,000 crore invested across 2,200 panchayats. Additionally, 44,433 teaching positions will be filled over the next three years.
Preserving Heritage and Expanding Opportunities
The CM introduced the “Heritage School Scheme” to restore and renovate century-old schools across Odisha. He also urged parents and teachers to support children in exploring diverse career paths beyond traditional professions like medicine and engineering.
During the event, CM Majhi directed the Cuttack Collector to submit a report on upgrading Banki NAC to a municipality.
Cuttack MP Bhartuhari Mahtab, MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy, former MLA Dr. Debashish Pattnaik, and centenary committee members were, among others present on the occasion.
