Bhubaneswar, Jul 3: Rainfall activity is likely to intensify across Odisha from Friday under the influence of an active low-pressure system, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over parts of the state during the next three to four days.

Red, Orange And Yellow Alerts Issued
The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar issued a red alert for Koraput and Malkangiri districts for the next 24 hours, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and the possibility of waterlogging.

Apart from the two districts under red alert, the IMD issued an orange alert for Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely.

A yellow warning has been issued for Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Boudh, Subarnapur, Balangir, Nuapada, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts, with heavy rainfall expected in these districts.

Strong Winds, Rough Sea Conditions Forecast
The IMD also warned that squally weather is likely to prevail along and off the Odisha coast till July 6.

Wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected over coastal areas and adjoining sea regions. Sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough during the next four days.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.

Rainfall Activity Intensifies In Koraput
Meanwhile, rainfall activity continued across Koraput district, where all 14 blocks recorded precipitation during the past 24 hours. Lamtaput block recorded the highest rainfall at 39 mm, followed by Nandapur (31 mm), Koraput (19.8 mm), Boipariguda (19 mm), Jeypore (17.8 mm) and Semiliguda (17.4 mm).

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as rainfall is expected to intensify further over the coming days, particularly in the southern districts of the state.
