IMD has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Odisha over the next five days due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Red, Orange, and Yellow warnings have been issued for multiple districts, urging residents and authorities to remain vigilant.

Bhubaneswar, Jul 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a series of warnings for Odisha over the next five days, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls due to a low-pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts, officials said.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the low-pressure system is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. The system is expected to intensify further in the next two to three days, bringing widespread rainfall across the state.

On Day 1 (July 2–3), IMD has issued an Orange Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in many districts including Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nawrangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri. A Yellow Warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
