Cuttack, Oct 7: Life in Cuttack has returned to normal after 36 hours of curfew, following recent unrest in the city. Known as the city of brotherhood, Cuttack has regained its peaceful rhythm, with residents resuming daily activities. The curfew was lifted after authorities confirmed no untoward incidents occurred during the restriction period, officials said on Tuesday.
Police Maintain Vigilance in Sensitive Areas
Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Debadatta Singh stated that the situation remained under control throughout the curfew. “No unpleasant incidents were reported. We are closely monitoring the situation,” he said. Police patrolling continues across the city, and additional forces remain deployed in sensitive zones to ensure public safety.

✨Political Voices Raise Concerns Over External Influence
Following MP Bhartruhari Mahtab’s remarks, BJP MP Pratap Sarangi also commented on the unrest, alleging that certain anti-social and anti-national elements had been nurtured over the past 25 years. He suggested that sudden outbursts were a result of long-standing issues and hinted at external involvement. He also mentioned activist Jyoti Malhotra in his statement.
Ten Arrested in Connection with Unrest
So far, ten individuals have been arrested for their alleged
involvement in the disturbances. Authorities have taken firm action against
those spreading misinformation on social media and inciting chaos on the
ground.
Clash At Dargah Bazaar
According to police and witnesses, the first outbreak of violence occurred between 1:30 am and 2 am on Saturday, when a Durga idol immersion procession passing through the Dargha Bazaar area towards the banks of the Kathajodi river was halted by a group of locals who objected to high-decibel music being played late at night.
The clash escalated as stones and bottles were allegedly hurled from rooftops, prompting retaliation. Several were injured, including DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo. Police are investigating the incident and urging restraint amid heightened tensions.
