Bhubaneswar, Apr 27: There will be no significant change in temperature across Odisha for the next two days, the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department has forecast on Monday. However, temperatures are likely to dip by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius thereafter, offering slight relief from the prevailing heatwave.
Heat and Humidity Warning
A yellow alert was issued for the next 24 hours in 11 districts -- Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati -- warning of intense heat coupled with high humidity.
Thunderstorm Alert in Select Areas
The weather office predicted the possibility of Kalbaisakhi-induced thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rain during afternoon hours in districts such as Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Balasore. A yellow alert has been issued for these regions as well.
Temperatures Soar Across State
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions persisted on Sunday, with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius in at least 18 locations. Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature at 44.8 degrees Celsius. Other major readings included 43.7 degrees Celsius in Sonepur, 43.6 degrees Celsius in Titlagarh, 43.4 degrees Celsius in Bhawanipatna, 43.1 degrees Celsius in Balangir, and 43 degrees Celsius each in Boudh and Sambalpur.

Sundargarh recorded 42.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Rourkela at 42.7 degrees Celsius, Nuapada and Nayagarh at 42.5 degrees Celsius, Hirakud at 42.4 degrees Celsius, Angul at 41.9 degrees Celsius, Talcher at 41.5 degrees Celsius, and Phulbani at 40.4 degrees Celsius. Bargarh, Paralakhemundi and Keonjhar also reported temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as heatwave conditions persist across the state.
