Bolangir, Feb 22: A newly married woman was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by her former lover in Odisha’s Subarnapur district early Sunday morning while she was returning home with her husband after their wedding ceremony, our source from the ground informed.
According to preliminary information, the groom, Haribandhu Patel -- a resident of Bolangir, had travelled to Kantamal for the marriage. After the ceremony, the couple was heading back when the accused in a white-coloured Maruti Suzuki Brezza allegedly intercepted their vehicle midway near Tarbha at around 5am.
Groom Claims Armed Threat, Bride Taken Away Midway
Patel claimed that the youth reportedly brandished a firearm, threatened him, and forcibly took the bride away before fleeing the spot. He was left stranded on the road following the alleged incident.
The episode has triggered concern in the locality, with villagers expressing shock over the brazen nature of the alleged act.

The groom later approached the Tarbha police station and sought immediate intervention. He reportedly informed police that he had been held at gunpoint while the accused abducted his wife.
