Cuttack, Jan 15: Panic gripped Jaunliapati Square in Cuttack after a shopkeeper was robbed at gunpoint by unidentified miscreants.


According to reports, the incident occurred when bike-borne assailants arrived at the busy marketplace and confronted the shopkeeper. The miscreants then demanded money while pointing a firearm at the victim. When the shopkeeper refused, the robbers fired a shot into the air to intimidate him.


Fearing for his life, the shopkeeper surrendered, after which the assailants forcibly snatched cash from his pocket and fled the scene on their motorcycle.


The sudden gunfire created chaos in the area, with locals shocked by the brazenness of the act.


Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers acted swiftly, leaving little time for anyone to intervene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.


Following the ordeal, the shopkeeper approached Purighat police station and lodged a formal complaint.

Acting on the report, police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops and intersections to identify the culprits.


The incident has raised concerns about rising criminal activity in Cuttack, with traders urging stronger security measures and increased patrolling to ensure public safety in commercial zones.
