Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: In a dramatic midnight operation, Odisha Vigilance trapped a senior engineer after hours of surveillance, mobile tracking, and covert pursuit across the twin cities.
According to officials, Prasanjit Das, the Superintending Engineer of Jagatpur Irrigation IB, was suspected of collecting illegal payments from contractors.
Acting on intelligence, Vigilance teams monitored his movements in Kataka and Bhubaneswar. The accused repeatedly changed vehicles and locations, making it difficult to pin him down.

✨Mobile tracking eventually revealed his presence near Delta Square, where he attended a private feast. Two Vigilance officers in plain clothes infiltrated the gathering to keep him under watch.
After the feast, the engineer left in his official Bolero to meet another contractor. At AG Square, the Vigilance team intercepted the vehicle and recovered ₹7.38 lakh in cash.
Simultaneously, another team raided his residence at Trident Galaxy Apartments in Bhubaneswar. The swift coordination ensured family members had no chance to conceal funds. The raid yielded an additional ₹14.60 lakh in cash.
In total, Vigilance seized over ₹21.98 lakh from the engineer. Officials said the operation was meticulously planned to counter his attempts at evasion. The investigation will now focus on tracing the source of the seized money and examining possible links to contract irregularities.
Authorities confirmed further inquiries are underway to
determine the full extent of the financial misconduct.
