Massive Turnout At Odisha Temples For Maha Shivaratri; Rituals Underway

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: Major temples across Odisha, including the revered Lingaraj Temple, witnessed a massive influx of devotees on Sunday on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. Temple authorities and police officials confirmed elaborate arrangements for smooth darshan and crowd management.

Heavy Influx of Devotees at Lingaraj
Since the early hours of the morning, thousands of devotees queued up at the 11th-century shrine in Bhubaneswar to offer prayers to Lord Shiva. As per the revised ritual schedule, Mangala Alati and Abakash began at 3 am, followed by Sahanamela Darshan till 11 am. Other rituals include Rosha Homa at 6:30 am, Chhamu cleaning at 11 am and Mahasnana Besha at noon.

Temple servitors informed that the sacred Mahadeepa will be raised at 10 pm, after which Chari Prahara Puja, Harihara Bheta, Badasinghara and Pahuda rituals will continue till 5:30 am on Monday. Around 40 platoons of police have been deployed in and around Ekamra Kshetra to maintain law and order, our source from the ground said.

Shrines Across Odisha See Devotional Fervour

Apart from Bhubaneswar, heavy footfall was reported at the Dhabaleswar Temple, Kapilas Temple and Akhandalamani Temple, among other shrines.

At Dhabaleswar Temple in Cuttack, devotees began arriving from 4 am. Servitors prepared a special offering known as ‘Mandua’ and distributed it among worshippers. The Mahadeep is scheduled to be raised at midnight there.

In Dhenkanal, a large number of devotees thronged Kapilas Temple for darshan of Lord Chandrasekhar from the morning hours of Maha Shivaratri. Similarly, at Akhandalamani Temple in Aradi, Bhadrak district, police personnel are deployed to ensure the orderly conduct of rituals.

Authorities said adequate security arrangements are in place across districts to manage the crowds. Devotees will observe day-long fasts and maintain night-long vigil, lighting diyas and participating in rituals linked to the belief that Lord Shiva consumed poison to save the world on Maha Shivaratri.
