Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) issued a major directive prohibiting the use of plastic and polythene within temple premises in Odisha ahead of Maha Shivaratri celebrations, our source from the ground informed on Saturday.

As preparations intensify at the Lingaraj Temple for the upcoming festival, authorities announced that devotees will not be allowed to carry offerings in polythene bags or single-use plastic items into the temple premises. The directive applies to puja materials, prasad distribution and food items.

The SPCB stated that the decision has been taken in accordance with the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, and subsequent amendments, which prohibit the use of single-use plastic. The move aims to reduce pollution caused by plastic and polythene waste and to encourage environmentally friendly practices among the public.
