Key Points

  • India and South Africa train in Cuttack; over 45000 spectators expected.
  • Security tightened with 50 platoons and 300 officers deployed for match duty.
Cuttack, Dec 8: South Africa captain Aiden Markram on Monday said that the T20 format demands a completely different approach and his team will enter the opening match against India with fresh strategies. Speaking ahead of the December 9 fixture at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium, Markram noted that this is his first visit to the iconic venue.

“T20 is a different battle altogether. We will approach it with a different plan. I won’t speak about records, but tomorrow we will try to give our best and enjoy the game,” the Proteas skipper said.

Commenting on India’s squad composition, Markram admitted that the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will certainly be felt. He also identified Abhishek Sharma as a “dangerous player,” adding that South Africa has prepared specific plans to counter him.

Teams Train at Barabati; Massive Turnout Expected
Both India and South Africa trained at the Barabati Stadium on Monday, gearing up for the high-profile series opener expected to attract over 45,000 spectators. On Sunday, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was the only Indian player to travel for an additional net session.

For the first time ever, Barabati will host an international match on a red-soil pitch, prepared to international standards. Additional red-soil practice strips near the clock tower have been readied to help players get accustomed to the surface.

Tight Security and Elaborate Match-Day Arrangements
With both teams staying at the Mayfair Hotel in Bhubaneswar, security has been intensified. The Police Commissioner held a detailed briefing for officers on responsibilities related to player protection and crowd management.

A total of 50 platoons of police and over 300 officers have been deployed for match duty. Security along the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack route has been strengthened, with VIP protection units accompanying team movements. A dedicated traffic management plan is also in place to ensure smooth transit for players and officials.
