Argus News - Man Arrested For Killing Father, Stepmother In Cuttack

Cuttack, Nov 22: In a brutal double murder that has shocked Cuttack, a man allegedly slit the throats of his father and stepmother at their residence in the Old Jail Colony under Dargha Bazar police limits late Friday night after a dispute over money.

The accused, identified as Alok Das, was arrested at the scene along with the knife used in the crime, police said.

According to Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, Alok had been quarrelling with his father Deepak Das, a staffer in Choudwar Jail, over the repayment of Rs 10 lakh that Deepak reportedly owed him from a land transaction. Police said the accused had been living separately for some time and frequently demanded more money from his father, leading to long-standing tension in the family.

Investigators said Alok arrived at the house around 10pm Friday armed with a knife and attacked both Deepak and his wife Rita Rani Das, stabbing them repeatedly in the chest, neck and abdomen. After the assault, he reportedly called his wife Tarulata and confessed, saying that he had “ended all tension.”

A relative who arrived at the house discovered the bodies and alerted police. The cops reached the spot and detained Alok, who was still sitting at the crime scene. The murder weapon was seized.

Forensic and scientific teams inspected the spot late at night, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

“The accused had been demanding money for a long time. The murders were committed following a premeditated plan,” the DCP said, adding that the crime was triggered by a financial dispute.
