Odisha Flood Update / Mahanadi Flood Disrupts Connectivity In Kataka's Banki-Dampada Block, Six Panchayats Cut Off

Banki, Sep 28: The Mahanadi is witnessing its fourth flood situation of the year following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment, with rising floodwater disrupting connectivity in several parts of Banki-Dampada block in Kataka district, sources said on Monday.

The situation has particularly affected low-lying areas of Banki, where floodwater has entered the Huluhula bridge, leaving around four feet of water flowing over the structure and bringing traffic to a complete halt.

With the bridge submerged, six panchayats in Banki block have been cut off from the outside world, while several hectares of agricultural land have also been inundated.

Roads Submerged, Connectivity Hit
Floodwater has also entered the Bilipada-Talabasta main road in Dampada-Banki block, disrupting vehicular movement.

More than three feet of floodwater is flowing over the Kaianala between Sukhuakhala and Similipur, further affecting connectivity in the area.

Whenever floodwater rises in the Mahanadi, four panchayats in Banki block and five panchayats in Dampada block are among the areas that are more severely affected, sources informed.

Farmers Worried As Farmland Goes Underwater
The inundation of hundreds of hectares of farmland has added to concerns among farmers, with standing crops at risk of being damaged by the floodwater.

The administration is monitoring the movement of floodwater and keeping a watch on vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, rising water levels have increased anxiety among residents of low-lying areas, particularly those dependent on the affected roads and bridges for daily movement.
