Security / Kataka Police Crack Down ahead of Festive Season

Kataka, Sep 19: With the festive season approaching, the Commissionerate Police in Cuttack has stepped up preparations to ensure peace and order across the city.

A special drive against professional criminals and warrant holders is underway, with 30 arrests already made since Ganesh Puja.

Police have compiled lists of offenders across police stations and directed officers to act firmly against habitual criminals. Night nakabandis and foot patrols have been intensified to prevent crimes that often rise during crowded festive gatherings.

“Our focus is on ensuring peaceful celebrations with strict vigilance against offenders,” said Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari.

On Friday evening, during a routine check near High Court Square, Lalbag police intercepted a youth riding a costly bike under the influence of alcohol. A firearm was recovered from his possession.

The accused, identified as Kishan Moharana, was arrested and produced in court. He faces charges under serious sections for illegal possession of arms and drunk driving. Police revealed that Moharana already has two prior criminal cases registered against him.

Authorities have also prepared lists of other anti‑social elements and intensified raids to curb their activities. Intellectuals in the city have welcomed the crackdown, stressing that such offenders must be dealt with firmly to safeguard public safety.

With Cuttack’s bustling 52 bazaars and 53 lanes expected to draw huge crowds during Durga Puja, police are focusing on maintaining law and order. Officers emphasized that public cooperation is vital for smooth celebrations.

“We are prepared, but citizens’ support is equally important to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season,” said a senior officer.
