Bhopal, Sept 19: Eight pilgrims from Odisha reportedly died in a tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh, after the car they were travelling in was swept away by strong water currents in a drain near Nalkheda in Agar Malwa district.
According to the information, the victims were residents of the Jayadev Vihar area of Bhubaneswar and had travelled to Madhya Pradesh on a pilgrimage. The accident occurred amid heavy rainfall in the region, which had caused a strong flow of water in the drain.
The eight deceased reportedly included three children, two women and three men. They were travelling together as part of a family pilgrimage and were reportedly visiting Ujjain and Nalkheda.
The incident took place near the Maa Bagalamukhi Temple, a prominent religious destination in Nalkheda. After the car fell into the drain, local authorities and rescue teams reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.

✨According to preliminary information, the area had received heavy rainfall during the night. The resulting rise in water levels and strong current in the drain is believed to have contributed to the vehicle being swept away.
The exact circumstances that led to the car falling is not yet clear. It is being said that the major tragedy occurred due to the driver's negligence. Apart from the parents and the daughter-in-law who were at home, the entire family has been devastated.
According to the deceased’s family, the group had left for Madhya Pradesh on the 16th and was scheduled to return home on Monday. At around 11 PM, the family received the devastating news that seven of their family members had lost their lives.
Former Union Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan expressed grief over the tragic incident involving Odia pilgrims in Madhya Pradesh’s Agar Malwa district. Pradhan spoke with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who assured him that all necessary assistance and support would be extended to the affected families.
