Kataka, Sep 13: With the festive season approaching, preparations for the grand Durga Puja celebrations in Kataka have gathered pace, with the Kataka Mahanagar Shanti Committee holding a preparatory meeting to discuss arrangements for the festival.
The meeting focused on ensuring smooth and peaceful celebrations across the city, including road repairs, sanitation, electricity supply, traffic management and security arrangements.
The Shanti Committee has urged the administration to complete road repairs across the city before the puja and ensure that essential permissions and facilities are made available through a single-window system.
Durga Puja is scheduled to begin October 17 and continue until October 22. The committee has requested permission for cultural programmes to continue until midnight during the five-day celebrations. It has also urged the administration to allow traditional musical instruments after midnight during the immersion process.

KMC Waives User Fees, Ground Rent
The Kataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) has announced that no user fee or ground rent would be collected from puja committees this year.
The mayor and commissioner also announced that puja mandaps maintaining high standards of cleanliness would be recognised and awarded by the civic body.
The single-window system would also cover permissions related to cultural programmes and other puja-related activities, making it easier for different committees to complete the required formalities.
The Shanti Committee has also urged the district administration to ensure proper lighting at Devi Gada, where the immersion process takes place, along with adequate civic arrangements.

Police To Keep Watch On Social Media
Elaborate security arrangements are also planned for the festival. Police said social media platforms would be closely monitored during the celebrations.
Those found circulating rumours or objectionable posts on social media would face strict action, the Police Commissioner said.

As part of the security arrangements, 10 volunteers from each puja mandap would be provided T-shirts bearing the police logo. The volunteers would assist the police during the celebrations.
Representatives of political parties, administrative officials, puja committees and members of the Shanti Committee attended the meeting.
New Award In Memory Of Samir Dey
For the first time this year, the Samir Dey Memorial Trust would confer the Samir Dey Sharadiya Samman on the best Durga Puja mandap in memory of late Samir Dey.
The initiative is expected to add another dimension to the city’s annual Durga Puja celebrations, which attract large crowds across Kataka.
Representatives of political parties, administrative officials, puja committees and members of the Shanti Committee attended the meeting.
