Bhubaneswar, Mar 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast continued Kalbaisakhi activity across Odisha till April 3, with thunderstorms, lightning, rain and gusty winds likely to affect several parts of the state.
According to the forecast, isolated places will experience thunderstorm activity accompanied by light to moderate rainfall and wind. After the next three days, daytime temperatures are expected to rise gradually by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, temperatures crossed 36°C at 15 locations across the state. Talcher and Bhawanipatna emerged as the hottest places, recording 39°C each. Jharsuguda and Sonepur recorded 38.2°C, while Balangir crossed 38°C. Coastal Odisha also witnessed humid conditions.
The IMD predicted that on Sunday, districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri may witness light to moderate rain with thunderstorms at one or two places.
Lightning with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph is likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada. Meanwhile, districts such as Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Koraput and Malkangiri are likely to experience winds of 30–40 kmph along with rain and lightning.

For Monday, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in south Odisha and north coastal districts, including Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are also expected at some locations.
Sea conditions are expected to remain rough, with wind speeds ranging from 40–50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the north Odisha coast for the next 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours, several places recorded rainfall, with hailstorms reported in Jharsuguda and Bhubaneswar. Rainfall was recorded at 13 locations, with Chakapad in Kandhamal receiving the highest at 34.2 mm.
