Bhawanipatna, Mar 29: A case was registered against Durga Prasad Mohanty, husband of Narla BJD MLA Manorama Mohanty, over allegations of issuing death threats to a government official in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.
Mohanty, also serving as the block chairperson of Narla, has been accused of threatening tehsildar Bibhu Prasad Singh while he was discharging official duties. A written complaint was lodged on March 15, with copies sent to senior district authorities, including the Collector and Superintendent of Police.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to criminal intimidation and obstruction of public duty. However, nearly 15 days after the FIR, the accused has not yet been arrested.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing and appropriate legal action will follow.
Meanwhile, a team of Kalahandi Police visited the MLA’s official quarters in Bhubaneswar as part of the probe. A house help alleged that 10–12 police personnel entered the premises early in the morning and checked documents.

According to the Kalahandi SP, the accused was traced during a previous operation in Bhubaneswar but managed to flee.
The incident has sparked a political row, with leaders of the Biju Janata Dal alleging vendetta. Chinmaya Sahu, president of the Biju Yuva Janata Dal, claimed the action was linked to the MLA’s stance during the Rajya Sabha elections.
The complainant tehsildar has not issued any public statement so far, and no response has been received from the MLA or her husband regarding the allegations.
