Jayapur Municipality faces outrage as vehicles allegedly run without valid papers, sparking safety concerns. District Collector orders probe.

Jayapur, Oct 6: A fresh controversy has erupted in Koraput district after allegations surfaced that several vehicles used by Jayapur Municipality for official work are operating without valid documents.

Reports suggest that trucks and goods carriers deployed for civic duties such as sanitation and transport are running with questionable registration numbers and missing paperwork, raising serious concerns about legality and public safety.

According to complaints, one vehicle carries a two‑wheeler registration number but is actually a four‑wheeler operating on the roads.

Beyond mismatched numbers, doubts have been raised over whether these vehicles possess valid registration certificates (RC), insurance, fitness clearances, and permits.

If such vehicles are being used for government work, locals are asking who authorized them and who would be held accountable in case of an accident.

The issue has drawn sharp reactions from residents and Right to Information activists, who argue that the absence of valid papers is not just a bureaucratic lapse but a direct threat to public safety.

Without insurance or proper permits, victims of accidents involving these vehicles may be left without compensation or protection.

District Collector has responded strongly, promising a thorough investigation. He stated that not only will the documents of these vehicles be verified, but the circumstances under which they were deployed will also be examined.

Questions of accountability — who allowed their use and whether rules were followed — will be part of the inquiry.
