Bhubaneswar, Feb 22: An Indian Revenue Service officer has been accused of rape and criminal intimidation in Bhubaneswar, with police registering a case following a complaint by a young woman.

According to the complaint, the officer allegedly showed the woman obscene videos and raped her inside his government quarters in the Satsang Vihar area. The woman further alleged that he recorded private images of her and used them to blackmail her, threatening to circulate the material if she reported the incident.

The alleged assault took place on February 15 while the officer’s wife and sister were away from the house. The woman, who had accompanied the officer’s sister to the residence a few days earlier, was alone at the time. She alleged that the officer called her into a bedroom under the pretext of watching a film on his laptop before showing her explicit content and sexually assaulting her.

When she protested and threatened to approach the police, the officer allegedly claimed he had recorded intimate footage of her while she was changing clothes and warned that he would make the images public. Fearing repercussions, she later left the quarters when she found an opportunity.

About four hours later, the officer’s wife and sister returned home and began searching for the woman. The officer allegedly told them that she had received an urgent call from her village and had suddenly decided to leave. He claimed he had escorted her to a bus and that she had returned to her village.

On February 18, the woman alleged that she learnt that the obscene images had been circulated. When she confronted the officer, he allegedly summoned her to a hotel in Puri and threatened to send the material to her family if she refused to comply.

She subsequently filed a complaint at Saheed Nagar Police Station in Bhubaneswar. Police registered a case under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and recorded the survivor’s statement. A medical examination has also been conducted.
