Bhubaneswar/Cuttack, Jun 4: Two separate violent incidents allegedly linked to substance abuse and illegal narcotics activity were reported from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, leaving two youths seriously injured and raising fresh concerns over law and order.

Youth Attacked With Scissors In Cuttack's Machhua Bazaar
Tension prevailed in Cuttack's Machhua Bazaar area after an allegedly intoxicated youth attacked another young man by thrusting a pair of scissors into his neck, a source said.

According to the source, the accused was under the influence of intoxicants when the incident occurred. The injured youth sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, enraged locals allegedly overpowered and thrashed the accused before handing him over to police.

Police from Mangalabag Police Station reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. The exact reason behind the attack is yet to be established.

Youth Stabbed In Balianta Over Alleged Drug Trade Dispute
In another incident, a youth was allegedly stabbed over a dispute linked to illegal drug trade at Sarakana village under Balakati outpost in Balianta police station limits in Khordha district.

The injured youth was identified as Hadubandhu Pradhan from Sarkana village. According to the source, two youths from the same village allegedly attacked him with a knife following a dispute related to narcotics activities.

Locals rescued the injured man and admitted him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

On receiving information, personnel from Balakati Outpost and Balianta Police Station reached the spot and launched an investigation.

Residents Express Concern Over Rising Crime
The incident has sparked concern among local residents, coming days after the widely discussed Soumya murder case in Balianta.

Residents alleged that the increasing presence of illegal intoxicants and substance abuse in the area is contributing to a rise in violent crimes. Locals demanded intensified police patrolling and stricter enforcement measures to curb criminal activities and prevent such incidents in the future.
