Mathili, Sep 25: Three days of incessant rainfall have disrupted normal life across several parts of southern Odisha, with floodwaters entering villages, roads and low-lying areas, while landslides have disrupted railway services in neighbouring Rayagada district.
In Malkangiri, the district administration has so far evacuated 1,154 people from vulnerable areas and shifted them to safer locations amid the prevailing flood situation.
According to information from the district administration, 280 people -- 200 from Namkonda village and 80 from MPV-16 -- have been evacuated in Kalimela block. Another 47 members from 15 families in Namkonda gram panchayat have also been shifted to safety.
In Podia block, eight people from Kurti, 14 from MV-57 who were shifted to the MV-57 school, 218 girl students from Kanyashram who were moved to KGBV Bapanpalli, and 335 people from Girkanpalli MFC have been evacuated.

No evacuation has so far been reported from Mathili and Chitrakonda blocks. In Balimela NAC, 10 people from five families have been shifted to the NAC Town Hall, while 35 people from six families in Khairput block have been moved to safer locations.
Floodwater Flows Over Bridges
Floodwater continues to flow over low-lying bridges at several locations in Malkangiri, while water has entered Poteru village.
The district administration is providing cooked food to affected residents. Four senior officials have also been assigned special responsibility for monitoring the situation in four blocks.

Houses Damaged In Kalimela
Meanwhile, several houses have been damaged in Kalimela block following three days of heavy rainfall.
In Kenduguda village under Bhejangi Wada panchayat, the wall of Sana Gauda's house suddenly collapsed on Thursday evening. Six members of his family, including Sana, were inside the house at the time. No one was injured, but household belongings were damaged.
As the house was rendered uninhabitable, the family took shelter at a neighbour's house. However, the family allegedly had not received polythene sheets or ration supplies till Thursday night.

As the house was rendered uninhabitable, the family took shelter at a neighbour's house. However, the family allegedly had not received polythene sheets or ration supplies till Thursday night.
Two other houses in Bapanpalli village, belonging to Ram Padiami and Muke Madkami, were also reportedly damaged. Ram's family has two members, while four people live in Muke's family.
The house of Padia Padiami in Arnamala village under the same panchayat was also reportedly damaged. Four members of the family were living there.
In MPV-37 village under Bodigetta panchayat, the wall of Krishna Biswas' house collapsed following the incessant rain.
The damage has reportedly heightened concerns over the safety of vulnerable and kutcha houses in the area. Locals have sought an immediate assessment of the damage and provision of polythene sheets, food supplies and other relief materials to affected families. They have also sought house-damage assistance under government norms.
Rail Services Hit In Rayagada
In Rayagada, incessant rain has disrupted train movement on the K-R line after soil and rocks fell on the railway track near Tunnel No. 29 between Keutguda and Sikarpai railway stations.
Rail traffic on the route has been suspended following the landslide. An Intercity train is stranded at Sikarpai railway station, while the Hirakhand Express has been held at Keutguda station.
Railway personnel have reached the spot and started clearing soil and rocks from the track. Efforts are underway to restore train services at the earliest.
Multiple incidents of soil and debris falling on railway tracks were also reported at different locations on Wednesday amid the heavy rain.
With rainfall continuing, railway authorities are maintaining close surveillance over railway tracks, tunnels and other vulnerable stretches in the region.
The house of Padia Padiami in Arnamala village under the same panchayat was also reportedly damaged. Four members of the family were living there.
