Koraput, Sep 25: Incessant rain triggered by a low-pressure system has led to flooding and widespread disruption across several parts of Koraput district over the past three days, with Borigumma and Kotpad blocks among the worst affected, sources said on Friday.
Following the opening of three gates of the Indravati reservoir for water discharge, the situation has worsened in parts of Kotpad block. Two villages -- Asana and Bania under Guali panchayat -- have been completely cut off by floodwater.
Since early Thursday morning, Kotpad MLA Rupu Bhatra, along with administrative officials, has been assisting in the evacuation of residents from the affected villages. People are being shifted to safer locations using tractors and other vehicles.
In Borigumma block, around 60 people in Bangalaguda village have reportedly been stranded after water from the Indravati River entered the area suddenly. Fire Services personnel from Borigumma and an ODRAF team have been attempting to evacuate the stranded residents using boats.

Borigumma Tehsildar Suman Behera has also reached the affected area and is coordinating the shifting of residents to safer locations.
Meanwhile, rising water levels in the Chamari River have disrupted communication between Bena and Gunjiguda villages.
Incessant rainfall has also affected Kundura block, where around two feet of water is flowing over the Nadialopali bridge.
As a result, road connectivity between Kundura, Digapur and Jayapur has been disrupted. The Kundura block administration and Boipariguda police have reached the spot and barricaded both sides of the bridge, completely restricting movement.
The disruption has affected residents of around three to four panchayats who depend on the route for connectivity with Kundura block.
Digapur and surrounding areas have also been severely waterlogged following rainfall throughout the night.

Fire Breaks Out At Jayapur Art College
Meanwhile, heavy rain was followed by another incident in Jayapur, where a fire broke out at the Art College in the heart of the town.
Two computers and a television were destroyed in the fire, while several office files were also reportedly damaged, according to college Principal Judhisthira Mallick.
The watchman noticed smoke early in the morning and alerted the principal. Fire Services personnel subsequently reached the college and brought the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Fire Breaks Out At Jayapur Art College
Meanwhile, heavy rain was followed by another incident in Jayapur, where a fire broke out at the Art College in the heart of the town.
