Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a rise in night temperatures across Odisha over the next two days, bringing some relief from the biting cold wave that has gripped the state.


According to the weather department, minimum temperatures are expected to increase by 2–4°C, easing the chill that has persisted in recent weeks.


The IMD has also issued cold wave (yellow warning) and fog alert for several districts. The advisory covers both coastal and interior regions, where dense fog is likely to affect road and rail traffic.


On Saturday, minimum temperatures were recorded at 8.8°C in Jharsuguda, 10.6°C in Keonjhar, and 12°C in Bhubaneswar. Meteorologists noted that the western disturbance currently influencing the region is responsible for the gradual warming trend.


While the cold wave conditions are expected to weaken, the IMD has urged people to remain vigilant, especially in areas under fog warning.

Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution and plan travel accordingly. The overall weather outlook suggests dry conditions across the state until January 20, with foggy mornings continuing in several districts.
