Bhubaneswar/Daringbadi, Dec 16: The latest weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar said there would be no significant change in minimum temperatures across Odisha over the next six to seven days, indicating no immediate respite from the prevailing cold conditions.
Biting cold conditions continued to grip Odisha’s hill districts, with Daringbadi -- often referred to as the state’s coldest region -- remaining under a thick blanket of dense fog on Tuesday. The fog enveloped the area, sharply reducing visibility and disrupting normal life.
Daringbadi recorded a minimum temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, while the hilly areas of G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district registered a lower 5 degrees Celsius, officials said. Locals reported that day and night temperatures were nearly the same, intensifying the chill.
Dense fog affected vehicular movement, with visibility reduced to about 15–20 metres in several stretches. Drivers were seen slowing down and proceeding cautiously to avoid accidents.
Cold wave conditions also prevailed across other parts of Kandhamal district, including Daringbadi and Simanbadi, where persistent fog added to the discomfort.
