Ganjam, Oct 26: At least 180 cows were seized from two trucks near Bishnupur Chhak on National Highway 16 in Ganjam district late last night.
Acting on reliable inputs, members of a local cow protection group intercepted two trucks near Bishnupur Chhak. On search, the cow protection volunteers found cows inside the vehicle.
Upon being confronted, the suspected traffickers abandoned the trucks and fled the scene.
The trucks were reportedly transporting cattle from Odisha to West Bengal without proper documentation.
A total of 180 cows were found crammed inside the two vehicles. Later, the rescued cattle were safely relocated to a nearby goshala (cow shelter) for care and rehabilitation.

Local rural police arrived at the scene shortly after and seized both the vehicles. A formal investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
