An orange alert has been issued for Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for 22 districts including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Boudh.
Bhubaneswar, Mar 8: Odisha is currently under the influence of a cyclonic circulation that has formed over the state, extending up to 1.5 km above sea level. The system has already triggered rainfall in several regions, and the Meteorological Department has issued alerts for multiple districts.

While an orange alert has been issued for Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for 22 districts including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Boudh.

Wind speeds are expected to reach between 30 and 40 km per hour during this period, said the weather agency.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, advising them to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid sheltering under trees.

The weather department has also indicated that following this activity, the day temperature across Odisha is likely to drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. With alerts in place, district administrations have been asked to remain vigilant and ensure preparedness for any emergency situations.

The cyclonic circulation is expected to bring widespread rainfall, marking a significant shift in weather conditions across the state.
