Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: Torrential rains triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal have wreaked havoc across several districts in Odisha.
This has led to severe waterlogging, road blockages, and landslides at several regions.
In many areas, residential areas were spotted flooded while at some parts the major road connectivity was left blocked.
In Ward No. 14 of Anandapur Municipality, overnight downpours flooded residential areas, with water levels rising up to knee height inside homes. Residents were caught off guard as rainwater entered their houses, forcing families to endure sleepless nights and significant discomfort.
In Malkangiri district, floodwaters have submerged key bridges on National Highway 326, particularly at Kangurukonda (MV-96) and Kanyashram, with water levels reaching 4 to 5 feet. As a result, traffic movement between Odisha and neighboring states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has come to a standstill. Hundreds of vehicles remain stranded on both sides of the highway.
Similarly, in Koraput district, landslides have disrupted road connectivity in Narayanpatna block, especially near Rangapani village under Tentulipadar Panchayat. The affected route connects two tribal hamlets—Upper Rangapani and Lower Rangapani—located near the Nalco mining zone.
Mudslides have blocked the Kukudasila–Rangapani road, isolating these villages and halting essential movement.

Emergency teams have been deployed to monitor flood-prone zones, and efforts are underway to restore connectivity and assist stranded commuters.
On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for Malkangiri and Koraput, forecasting continued heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days.
