  • Family alleges Bhimasen abetted Chandrika’s suicide.
  • 15‑year relationship marked by dowry demands.
  • Police probe questioned for registering only BNS Section 108.
  • Chandrika’s missing diary adds mystery to the case

Bhubaneswar, Jun 9: The death of Udala medical student Chandrika Hembram has taken a new turn, with serious allegations surfacing against her long‑time male companion Bhimasen Prasad Tudu. Family members have accused him of abetting her suicide, citing a 15‑year relationship marked by financial exploitation and dowry demands.

According to Chandrika’s cousin Rashmita, Bhimasen had taken household items such as a television, refrigerator, and air‑conditioner even before marriage, allegedly purchased with Chandrika’s money. Earlier, he had also taken laptops and tablets. The family claimed that despite marriage plans being in place, the entry of another woman named Swati altered the relationship dynamics, leading to mounting tensions.

The FIR lodged in the case mentions that Chandrika was driven to suicide by Bhimasen. However, questions have been raised over why the police registered the case only under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, despite the family’s allegations of abetment. The Commissionerate Police has formed two teams to trace Bhimasen and his associates, who are reportedly absconding.

Family members, including Bhagaban Hansda, have demanded a thorough investigation, while legal experts such as advocate Manas Chand have pointed to gaps in the police’s handling of the case. Meanwhile, Chandrika’s diary, seized from her bag, contained disturbing entries including repeated words “DIE DIE DIE,” a date, and references to her nickname “Nupur.” Yet, her larger personal diary, in which she had been recording her life story, remains missing.
