Balasore, Jan 2: Former Nilgiri MLA Akshaya Acharya passed away last night at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy of public service and political commitment.
According to reports, Acharya's health condition suddenly worsened in the early hours of the morning. Following this, he was initially rushed to Nilgiri Hospital and later transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Balasore for advanced treatment.
Despite the efforts of doctors, he breathed his last while undergoing medical care.
Acharya, a Congress leader, represented the Nilgiri constituency twice—first from 1980 to 1985 and later from 1995 to 2000. Known for his grassroots connect and dedication to the welfare of his constituency, he played a significant role in shaping local politics during his tenure.
