Saranda, Apr 16: At least five personnel of the elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit of the CRPF sustained injuries during the exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists in the Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, near the Odisha border.
According to reports, the encounter occurred after security forces launched a special search operation based on intelligence inputs that Maoists were hiding in the dense forest.
The operation involved CRPF, CoBRA commandos, and Jharkhand Jaguar units. Police confirmed that the clash was with the group led by dreaded Maoist commander Misir Besra, a Politburo member of the banned CPI (Maoist), who carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head.
West Singhbhum SP stated that the injured jawans are out of danger. Police IG (Operations) Michael Raj S said the operation was specifically aimed at capturing Misir Besra.

Saranda, Asia’s largest sal forest, has long been a stronghold for Maoists, serving as a safe hideout.
