Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: A fire broke out at a bar in Bhubaneswar's Satya Vihar area on Friday morning, a source said, adding that the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined. Two fire tenders rushed to the spot and firefighters are currently engaged in dousing operations. No casualties have been reported so far.

The incident comes days after a major nightclub fire in Goa that killed 25 people, prompting the Odisha Fire and Emergency Services (OFES) to order a statewide audit of all restaurants and standalone establishments with seating capacity above 100.

OFES Director General Sudhanshu Sarangi had said the audit has been ordered as a precautionary measure. “We have instructed fire and assistant fire officers to begin the audit within a week. Establishments found lacking in safety protocols will be directed to plug the gaps,” he said. The inspections will assess structural stability, emergency exits, fire alarms, extinguishers and building code compliance.

The Goa tragedy occurred around midnight at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, where more than 100 people were present during a live performance. Officials said the fire started on the first floor and quickly spread across the building. A preliminary probe indicated that many victims were trapped in the basement and suffocated.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had visited the site and ordered an inquiry, saying those responsible would face strict action.

Firefighters worked overnight to bring the blaze under control, and visuals from the scene showed the structure gutted as rescue teams recovered bodies and investigators examined the debris.
