Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: A fresh case of alleged deception in the guise of love and marriage has surfaced in Bhubaneswar after a young woman filed a complaint accusing her partner of exploiting her physically on the promise of marriage.
According to the FIR lodged at Maitri Vihar police station, the accused -- identified as Soumya Ranjan Gadanayak from Banarpal in Angul district, currently working as a pharmacist in Delhi -- allegedly maintained a physical relationship with the woman after assuring her of marriage, only to later mislead her. Gadnayak allegedly engaged with another woman.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested Gadanayak and initiated formal procedures, including medical examination of the survivor and documentation of her statement as per legal protocol. The investigation is underway, and officials confirmed that the case has been registered under relevant sections based strictly on the survivor’s allegations.
The incident comes at a time when national data continues to highlight rising concerns regarding sexual offences committed under the pretext of marriage.
