Sonepur, Dec 9: .A district court in Sonepur sentenced a man and his son to life imprisonment for murder of a villager over a land dispute in the year 2018.

According to case details, Daman Rana and Gajapati Rana, of Titipali village under Tarbha police station, murdered Chaitanya Rana of the same village following a long-standing land dispute. Police had arrested both soon after the incident, and the case remained under trial in the Sonepur District Sessions Court.

Along with life imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each. In case of default, they will face an additional six months of imprisonment.

After nearly seven years of proceedings, the judgment was pronounced today.

Based on all evidence and witness testimonies, the court convicted the father-son duo while acquitting another accused, Santosh Rana, who was declared innocent.

Public Prosecutor Madhumita Amat, who conducted the case under the supervision of Deputy Director of Prosecution Benudhar Pradhan, informed the media about the verdict.
